LOS ANGELES (AP) — Miles Bridges scored 29 points, LaMelo Ball added 27 and the Charlotte Hornets stunned LeBron James and Luka Doncic with a 100-97 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.

James scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, but missed two 3-point attempts right before the buzzer. Doncic had 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in his third game for the Lakers, who bookended the All-Star break with losses to Utah and Charlotte, two of the NBA’s worst teams.

After Nick Smith Jr. hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 48 seconds left, Rui Hachimura missed two free throws. Ball drove for a finger-roll layup with 14.2 seconds left. James hit a 3-pointer with 6.8 seconds left, but Ball hit two free throws and James missed twice to seal the Hornets’ second win in 11 games.

Mark Williams had 10 points and nine rebounds in his first game since the Lakers acquired the center in a trade and then rescinded the deal.

Lakers are heavy favourites for this game, 11.5 point favourites to be precise. Which is a big spread.

LAL are 5th in the Western Conference with a 32-20-62% record (19-6 at home, which is imperious). 8-2 L10, on a L1 streak (loss in Utah, off the back of a W6 streak), and of course a well rested "big two" in LeBron (sat out the All Star games), and Doncic (played 2 games in 2 months). Lakers should have this game wrapped up by the start of the 4th Quarter.

Charlotte are shit. 14th in the East, only held off the bottom by Washington, the Hornets have a 13-39-25% record (4th worst in the NBA). They are 4-19 on the road, 1-9 L10 on an L3 streak. Frankly there is no way the Hornets should be beating the Lakers tonight. It ain't happening.

Whilst the Lakers have averaged 224 in their last 15 games, and whilst LeBron and Luka should be all guns blazing, it's hard for one team to drag a total up when the other team is so poor. 18 of the Hornets last 25 games have been Under.
